"26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”

Mary was a virgin, so how could she conceive? This is the way the natural world works. But God is the God of the supernatural! And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” (ESV) When our hearts are pure to take the Lord at His word, and to believe He will do what he says he will do, we are blessed!

Doubt comes in many shapes and forms. It doesn't matter how righteous or obedient you are, no one is spared from the attack of doubt. The question is not if, but when doubt will attack your faith in God and in His goodness. So how do we guard our hearts in the midst of doubt's onslaught? Let's take a look at the journey of Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth, as well as Mary the mother of Jesus. Let's see how the Lord used their stories to show us how to guard our heart when we face unbelief.

Storms are times of spiritual darkness and doubt. Storms create a feeling of disorientation and confusion. These are times when we feel as through God is hiding His face from us! Should we interpret the storm as a sign of God’s displeasure or absence? Does the sun keep on its course even when the skies are gray and overcast? Does the sun still shine even when I cannot see it? Could not the same be said of the everlasting love and faithfulness of God?! We are foolish to conclude in December that the flowers that were blooming in May are no longer there! We cannot see them; it’s not their season. Even so, let’s strengthen our hearts with the goodness of God in the midst of life’s storms!

As we approach our seasonal Thanksgiving holiday, we are encouraged to pause and to offer thanks to the Lord for the many blessings He has given to us.

In seasons of special blessing the need to guard our hearts would not seem to be as urgent. Hard times often encourage us to press in to seek the Lord. But when times are good, when the pain is a distant memory, when the lean season becomes a season of plenty, Satan employs a different strategy. We become satisfied and self-sufficient. How do we maintain prosperity with passion and purpose? How do we guard our hearts in this season?

Launching in 1981 as just 30 people in a living room in Northwest Indiana, Living Stones has grown into a vibrant multi-generational church family. Stones are a product of God the Creator — formed in nature and no two are alike. As we come to faith in Jesus Christ, scripture tells us that we are like living stones in the hand of God and He is using us to build up a spiritual house. Our foundation was built on the work of nurturing and restoring healthy, biblical marriages. In continuing that mission, everything we do here at Living Stones is centered around loving, healing, and equipping individuals and families to grow into a greater likeness of Christ Jesus! By the Holy Spirit, we exist today to Renew Hearts, Restore Homes, Reform Culture and Reach the Nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:4-5 ”As you come to him who is the Living Stone — he was rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious — you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house.” We are a family — misfits, hypocrites, creatives, addicts, reformers, over-churched, unchurched, wanderers — each of us a stone, uniquely crafted by the hand of God, made alive through Jesus, and now living by the power of the Holy Spirit. Together, we are Living Stones.
